Chapter Seven
DISTRESS CALL
SEE, IT SEEMS to be coming from this sector,â Esther indicated. âAnd it seems to be getting stronger.â
âItâs getting past the codes,â Lieutenant observed, turning to Sarah.
âYes,â Sarah confirmed. âWhoever it is, heâs gotten through the first three code levels.â
Deborah turned to look up at Lieutenant.
âBut we know every Armor Cell out there, and thereâs no longer an Armor Cell in that sector. The last Armor Cell disintegrated years ago, remember. There werenât any survivors.â
âI know,â Lieutenant responded. âThat Armor Cell used to be part of a very vibrant Christian community in that sector. They came under subtle, persistent attack from the enemy and eventually succumbed. First, they became self-righteous. Then they compromised Godâs standards and became complacent and lukewarm. Thinking themselves wise, they became foolish and increasingly worldly, totally losing their first love. Then they became corrupted. By the time the enemy was finished with them, they were a dead fellowship. Eventually that entire Christian community fell away.â
âIs it possible that someone from the original Christian community, or the original Armor Cell, is still around and trying to contact us?â Joseph asked.
âWhoever it is, theyâre getting through our code levels,â Sarah said. There was no mistaking the increasing seriousness of her voice. âTheyâre at code level four now . . . now theyâre at code level five.â
Anna gave voice to everyone elseâs thoughts as she asked, âDo you think itâs an infiltrator?â
âCanât be,â Lieutenant responded. âOur code sequence was given by inspiration from the Holy Spirit. Every Armor Cellâs code sequence is a special sequence chosen out of over 31,000 verses in Godâs Word. Itâs unique and practically impenetrable if one doesnât know the exact scripture sequence.â
âEven the enemy hasnât been able to actually break an Armor Cellâs code sequence,â Anna conceded.
âExactly,â Lieutenant agreed. âThe only way heâs been able to infiltrate is when soldiers go into battle unprepared, without having their entire armor on properly. Leaves them open to attack and capture. Of course, once theyâre captured, the enemy uses them to break their own Armor Cellâs code sequence.â
Lieutenant shook his head slowly. âThe Holy Spirit is the only One, other than us, Who knows the exact sequence. So whoever it is, if theyâre getting through, theyâre meant to.â
âTheyâre at code level six,â Sarah said, turning to Lieutenant. âItâs only a matter of time now.â
âIâll put them on screen,â Esther said.
Corey listened to the teamâs conversation in complete silence and fascination, trying to make sense of what he was hearing. He followed the team as they looked up at the large screen above their heads; it changed from a satellite image of the earthâs surface to a blank blue screen, a steady beeping sound coming across, followed by the sound of static.
âTheyâve just broken code level seven,â Sarah stated, looking up from her computer.
